All About The Parents
Where would we be without our wonderful mommas and dads of these darling pups? Here at Sweet Magnolia Doodles we take all our parent dogs into careful consideration, from health testing to temperaments to where they live. This is just the first step of many to intentionally raising these wonderful pups that will forever change your life. Read below to see a few of the things we do that makes ALL the difference.
A few key differences
We have a focus on breeding healthy, even tempered dogs and that all starts with the parents. It is of utmost importance for the continuing of these lines; they are incredibly loving, human focused, stable, and make for the most wonderful family companions. My goal is to have puppies, that turn into dogs, which are an absolute joy to own, just what we've found in our foundation females. We believe this approach is the key to producing puppies that are going to be, Mending Hearts & Making Memories.
Temperament Testing
1. No unprovoked aggression
2. Not hand shy (submissiveness is ok!)
3. No panic without reasonable recovery
4. Motivated to work and please
5. Intelligent/high trainability
6. Accepts handling from strangers
7. Exhibits self-control and focus
8. Solid Nerve strength
9. Good confidence
10. Eye contact is a plus!
Health Testing
Around 12 months old we begin health testing. ALL DOGS WILL BE TESTED BEFORE ENTERING INTO OUR PROGRAM, NO EXCEPTIONS.

Genetic Testing is completed by 16 weeks old.
We do OFA preliminary hip screening and proceed according to score. OFA states that what we see at one year is indicative of what we will see at 2 years old at a 93.8% rate. Our prelims are not listed on the OFA website. We'd be happy to provide a copy to you. Titling..we get asked occasionally so we figured we'd answer.
We hope to take this a step further and earn more titles as time permits. We hope to start earning CGC with our upcoming dogs. We do have past puppies that have earned their CGC titles. Titling dogs is a great way to "prove" them, but we also know the value of even tempered dogs is worth more than a title, especially when placing dogs with families and young children. We encourage our puppy families to do so and even offer bonuses when completed!
Nutrition
We offer our parent dogs premium nutrition and supplements. We feed Open Farm. We have used a variety of foods through the years and we are EXTREMELY impressed with the results of this company. We do offer our dogs fresh fruits such as blueberries, apples, bananas, and strawberries as toppers. They also enjoy sweet potatoes, cottage cheese, yogurt, fish oil, bone broth, probiotics, and a variety of vitamins. Moms receive more during pregnancy and nursing. There is no short cut in what we feed. We feel our dogs deserve the absolute best nutrition we can afford, because they provide us so much joy in life, it's the least we can do.
