We do OFA preliminary hip screening and proceed according to score. OFA states that what we see at one year is indicative of what we will see at 2 years old at a 93.8% rate. We all know that pretty much every puppy is adorable, but what about the parent dogs? Here at SMD we have some of the most gorgeous bloodlines of dogs lasting for years long after the cute puppy phase has ended. This has been achieved through years of being very particular on the bloodlines we choose to have in our program; as well as through genetic testing to ensure we're creating the most desirable coat traits and the type of structure we aim to create consistently.

Every single one of our parent dogs are raised in a guardian family. We never want to raise our dogs in a kennel type of environment where they wouldn't have a couch to snuggle on, enjoy those special outings to get pup cups, a quiet home to relax in, and the general comfort that comes with being a family pet first and foremost. While many may be unfamiliar with this program, it's an essential to us staying true to our belief of raising family dogs.

We offer our parent dogs premium nutrition and supplements. We feed Open Farm. We have used a variety of foods through the years and we are EXTREMELY impressed with the results of this company. We do offer our dogs fresh fruits such as blueberries, apples, bananas, and strawberries as toppers. They also enjoy sweet potatoes, cottage cheese, yogurt, fish oil, bone broth, probiotics, and a variety of vitamins. Moms receive more during pregnancy and nursing. There is no short cut in what we feed. We feel our dogs deserve the absolute best nutrition we can afford, because they provide us so much joy in life, it's the least we can do. 

We take it very seriously how important the parent dogs are in making sure we're producing some of the best family dogs across the country. We are continuously evaluating each dog from the time they are a puppy, even after they have become a mama for us. We look for these same traits in the dads we use to produce our puppies and only work with trusted breeders when outsourcing studs, never settling.
